This will contain spoilers for the movie big Hero 6. Don’t like, don’t read. Thank you!

This, well it’s a drabble rather than a oneshot, will play around with the idea of… What if Tadashi didn’t go into the fire for Professor Callaghan? What if he went in there, to save you?

Your vision was blurred. It was literally impossible to see three feet in front of you and that’s when you decided you should just give up. The fire, which you hadn’t known started until you saw the blaze and the smoke filled your healthy lungs, was now surrounding you. The fire alarms had been deactivated, thus meaning that this was a plan. Swallowing thickly, you dug your face into your hands as small tears began falling from them. They were sore, due to the smoke and chemicals filling your every cell, but that didn’t matter. You were more hurt by the fact that you were going to leave Tadashi. You didn’t want to leave him, and you guessed that’s why you refused to give up until now.

You remembered when his parents passed away ten years prior, and how he secluded himself from others. He became so distant… He was sadness walking on two feet. He refused any friendly advances from you for six months, before he finally talked to you. ‘It’s like,’ He said quietly, and yet you remembered it like his voice was yelling at you. ‘A part of your very soul being ripped out… They gave me life, they were my parents… They still are, even if they aren’t here…’ That was the first time that Tadashi cried in front of anyone. In all retrospects, the Asian man was exceedingly good at covering his emotions, but the day he spoke of his parents, he let his wall down.

When you opened your eyes again and sat your hands in your lap, a sign that you had stopped trying to get out of the budged door, you whispered to yourself in a desperate song that maybe he’d hear you through the burning building. “My heart would break if I knew you’d be like that again…” Tears escaladed down your cheeks, eyes now shut as you leaned your head against the wall. You curled up even tighter, hoping that it would keep the heat away from you, but you knew deep inside of your mind that it was only a matter of time. You tried to picture things that made you happy.

You remembered when Tadashi asked you out for the first time, and how red he was. You recalled Hiro calling him a ‘Tomato’, that resulting in Tadashi pushing Hiro to the side with much force. Holding his hand was something that always cheered you up. His hand was so big compared to yours, and it made them seem completely dainty. You especially loved it when he kissed your knuckles, a thing he did a lot to reassure you of his love. The next thing you thought of was when Tadashi kissed you for the first time. He was so awkward, his lips firm and with a small squeak, he lifted your own two feet off the ground.  Well, much rather, it was the other way around. You kissed him. He’d have never gotten to it if you didn’t take initiative. Your mind searched for all the kisses and all the hugs you had with him. You were thankful to have been with someone so great, so giving and so loving.  You were the lucky one, no matter how many times he tried to convince you that he was the lucky one.

Tadashi was running as fast as his long legs could take him. He thanked what ever god there was for the years he spent playing baseball, for he was quick and light on his feet. The floor below felt unstable but that was nothing compared to what he was feeling in his heart. He could feel it shattering each second he didn’t see your face. “(_Y/N_)!!” He screamed, hoping that you would hear him amongst the falling building. There was no reply. His entire body was on fire, but he wasn’t ready to give up until he climbed out of the flamed up building with you in his strong arms. He was determined not to lose another big part of his soul. Twirling around, for his ear caught onto what sounded like sobbing, he ran towards the door that seemed to be the entrance to the bathroom. With quite a burst of adrenaline and optimism he began beating at the door with his foot.

Growling, he began throwing his hand onto the door, leaving a thrusting sensation on his chapped hand. “(_Y/N_)!!” He could hear your weak voice through the door, and with a rush of an idea, he moved back before throwing his entire being into the wood. He gasped when he body lunged forward into the bathroom. “(_Y/n_)?!” Sliding onto his knees, Tadashi grasped a hold of the back of your knees and your head, picking you up gently. Despite his body being on fire, he could feel your own heat radiating as he began running out of the building. His swift feet dodged many of the falling pillars from the ceiling, and with near accuracy, he was out of the building. His eyes were on you the entire time, but the last thing that Tadashi really saw before his head his the pavement was Hiro running towards him.

He felt warm, but this was a different kind of warm than he felt the last time he was conscious. Swallowing thickly, Tadashi opened his beautiful eyes, but couldn’t help but flinch at the sound of fire hoses going off in all directions. He noticed right away that you weren’t in his arms anymore, and that he was laying on something that was softly covered, but still held a pang of hardness under the surface. Swallowing again, for he couldn’t seem to get his throat clenched. His nostrils could still smell the smoke for it had made its home on his clothes. He tried to sit up, but to no avail. Someone who smelled extremely sterile pressed on his chest, a sign that he shouldn’t try to sit up anymore than already attempted. He looked to the side and recognized them to be one of nurses from the medical campus only a few blocks away. He furrowed his eyebrows in slight confusion. He didn’t really care what happened to him, he just wanted to know that he had gotten you out of there in time and that you were okay.

“We need an oxygen tank over here, stat!” The voice was male, Tadashi perked up slightly as he looked to the left. It was darker over there, even if they supplied a light for the nurses to see with. He sat up quickly, thinking that it was an awful idea when his head began beating intensely. He screamed slightly, his entire body now in flames again as he tried to get off of the gurney that had him on. “(_Y/n_)!!” He screamed, his lungs aching with each breath he took. Gasping in pain, he ignored the nurse that tried desperately to get him to lay back down. His feet touched the cold ground below, and with scorched feet, he made his way towards your gurney, where you were silently laying, an oxygen mask covering your perfect face.

He could feel the tears hitting the back of his eyes, but he kept them in as his fingers grasped at your hair gently. Lifting your much smaller body up with ease, he clenched his fists on jacket. “I’m so sorry…” He whispered gently, not knowing if you could hear him or not. “Please… Please wake up…” Deep down inside of his hurting mind, he knew that pleading was going to get him nowhere, but he continued anyways unaware that you were coming back to the real world. “If ya wake up, I’ll have to marry you… And… We’ll have a lot of kids… I promise… Just, don’t leave me…” He laughed softly, his fingers swirling in your hair. “I’ll even let you choose the wedding colors! Red and gold sounds nice, but too much like the Sanfransokyo Ninjas…” He fell quiet, pulling back and leaning his head against your own. Dark amber eyes were shut tightly, as a way to keep his tears inside of his head.

“B-baseball themed w-wedding colors?” You wheezed, eyes still shut as you came back to reality. “E-ew.” You could feel him against you, sighing with relief. You weren’t sure how it happened, but the last thing you remember before your mind went fuzzy, was curling up in the bathroom stall and hearing Tadashi on the other side of the door, trying to break it down. He himself, as your eyes focused on your love, wasn’t physically hurt other than his head from what you could see. The bandage around his noggin was stained slightly red, and you furrowed your eyebrows. You hated to see him hurt because of you. “T-Tadashi…”

His broad shoulders picked up as he looked down at you, your voice only slightly muffled because of the oxygen mask. He beamed brightly at you, his hands enclosing around your entire being. “(_Y/N_)!!” He screeched. “Oh…” He breathed quickly, not letting himself loosen his grip. “So you heard all of that?” Nodding, you tried to press yourself against him but only caused your self a bit more pain. A shot of worry covered his face as he let go of you, his arms still holding at your arms with much more of a gentle touch. “Then, Future Mrs. Hamada… Choose your colors... “ He smiled slightly as he tried to comfort you. “Just not pink…”

“Pink and rose.” You giggled slightly.

“Oh ha ha.”
